The company computerlifeline was founded in 1987 and supports the local community in and around Godalming. The support covers all aspects of computer hardware and software. Computer technology is constantly changing due to the nature of the IT profession, innovative ideas are always put forward, some good some bad. The most well known operating system is Microsoft's windows the gui concept of which was devised by Apple/Mac computers. There is now a better operating system called LINUX which is a clone of a well establish UNIX system that has been in operation before Microsoft was thought of. Needless to say computerlifeline is an ardent advocate of this superior system and offers excellent training and support from installing and transition from windoze (a LINUX term for windows). It is even possible to run windoze and LINUX on the same PC giving you the best of both worlds. The LINUX operating system was devised by a man named Linus Torvolds. It was he who wrote the kernel which is the core of any operating system. He wrote the kernel in such a way that it was capable of running on a PC. There have been other attempts of running a unix based system on PCs but none so successful as LINUX. The reason for this is possibly down to it's open source philosophy. Open source means that the source code is readily available to everyone to use. Source code is the language used by programmers to write computer programs. It is this code that is then turned or compiled into a code that computers can understand. This code is called machine code. The compilation process is quite complex and goes through various stages. The proprietor of ComputerLifeLine is Patrick William Szyndel, his background is software (design and development). He has been involved with computers and operating systems since 1978.
